Alaska Wing Supports Alaska Shield Exercise

Maj. Stephen Sammons
Alerting Officer
Alaska Wing

The Alaska Wing stepped up recently to provide support for Alaska Shield, a multilevel, multijurisdictional exercise conducted to test the state’s ability in response to threats against critical infrastructure, cyber systems and the health and wellness of the state’s residents.

The exercise allows agencies from local to federal levels to partner and practice responding together to better prepare for unforeseen events.

Alaska Wing aircrews actively supported U.S. Coast Guard response teams in Cordova by providing aerial support platforms that enhanced the teams’ ability to survey damage sites and assess vessels in distress. Aircrews provided high-resolution images and visual assessments of simulated damage and other threats inside Prince William Sound.
