Chaplain in Ga. Wing Honored for 60 Years of CAP Service

Chaplain, Lt. Col. Eugene Brown of the Georgia Wing’s Peachtree-DeKalb Senior Squadron was recognized July 15 for his six decades of service to Civil Air Patrol.

Brown was honored with CAP’s Fifty Year Service Award during church services at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Cumming, where he serves as pastor – a post he also fills at Salem United Methodist Church in Dawson.

He received the award, which celebrates CAP members who have been with the organization for over 50 years, from Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chiu, the Georgia Wing’s government relations adviser and legal officer; Maj. Edward Hotchkiss, communications officer for Group 1; and Chaplain, Capt. Jerry George, chaplain for the Peachtree-DeKalb squadron.

Brown, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, joined CAP on May 28, 1958. The former Georgia Wing chaplain holds a master pilot rating and is credited with locating two crashes. He also holds multiple pilot ratings from the Federal Aviation Administration and is an instrument certified flight instructor. At 89, he still serves as a mentor and guide to other pilots.
