FAA Honors New Hampshire Wing Leaders for Flying Excellence
Two longtime leaders of the New Hampshire Wing —one a former wing commander, the other the wing's emergency services and search and rescue officer — have been recognized with a top Federal Aviation Administration' honor.
Col. William C. Moran and Lt. Col. Henry J. Dahlquist received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award in a ceremony Oct. 28. The award recognizes “individuals who have exhibited exemplary aviation expertise, distinguished professionalism, and steadfast commitment for at least 50 years of piloting experience and aircraft 
operations” while maintaining an exemplary flying safety record.
Moran commanded the New Hampshire Wing from 2010-2014 after serving as vice commander, alerting officer, director of emergency services, director of finance, director of logistics, and standardization/evaluation officer.
A CAP member since October 2001, he has also held numerous leadership positions in the Mount Washington and Hawk composite squadrons. He has commanded the Hawk squadron since Dec. 1.
He previously commanded that squadron from 2003-2006, the Mount Washington squadron from 2021-2022, and the Lebanon Composite Squadron in 2010.
Moran served in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years before retiring as a colonel. He piloted the B-1 Lancer, and B-52G Stratofortress bomber and FB-111 Aardvark fighter-bomber.
Dahlquist has been a CAP member since November 2003. He became the wing’s emergency services officer in May, having previously served as director of emergency services, and has been emergency services training officer and search and rescue officer since March 2013.
A retired Air Force National Guard colonel, he previously served as the Hawk squadron’s aerospace education officer and emergency services officer
“Hank has been my right-hand man during my four times as squadron commander, vice wing commander, and wing commander,” Moran said.
He credited Dahlquist for being “instrumental in the wing receiving two Outstanding ratings during CAP/USAF operations evaluations,” having “developed realistic SAR (search and rescue) scenarios that made our members work hard at being the best SAR force wing in the region.
“He continues to provide expert leadership to members,” Moran said.
