Fatal Accident Claims Calif. Member

A Civil Air Patrol airplane was involved in an accident near Whiteman Airport in Los Angeles about 11:45 a.m. local time Nov. 12, killing the California Wing member on board.

“Our hearts go out to the family of the member involved and to all of the volunteer Civil Air Patrol members in California Wing who diligently serve their state and country with pride and professionalism,” said Col. Ross Veta, wing commander.

At the request of the family, the member’s name will not be released.

The accident will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause.

“The entire California Wing will keep this member’s family in our hearts and prayers,” Veta said.
