La. Cadets Train for Squadron Staff Duties

Lafayette Composite Squadron cadets came together at Signature Flight Services at Lafayette Regional Airport for a day of training and fun.

Capt. Kale LeBlanc, deputy commander of cadets, and Cadet Lt. Col. Evan Norman, cadet commander, led the session, which focused on current and future cadet staff and how they can lead their fellow cadets in improving the squadron as a whole.

Seven cadets participated, with attendance restricted because of pandemic-related precautions. The training included discussions on Servant Leadership, Conducting an Opening Formation and Squadron Goals. Perfect weather allowed the training to move to the drill pad to practice the skills learned in the classroom.

Serving on cadet staff “isn’t for everyone,” Norman said. “You have to have the heart to plan and be a servant to get the best result for your cadets.”

Meanwhile, he’s sure “the current and future group of staff members are ready to step up to the plate and hit a home run.”

The participants’ hard work and enthusiasm was rewarded with a trip to a local entertainment center that features bowling, virtual reality simulators and arcade-style games.

“Overall the staff training was executed well,” Norman said. “ The information taught in this training doesn’t just apply to their CAP careers, but their professional lives as well.”
