Mississippi Members Mark Engineering Week

Engineers Week observers

MSwingMembers of the Mississippi Wing’s Vicksburg and Central Mississippi composite squadrons helped observe Engineers Week on Feb. 20 with an event featuring the commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ local division. 

Capt.  Scott Larsen, Vicksburg Composite Squadron commander, and Maj. Ron Ogan of the Central Mississippi Composite Squadron represented Civil Air Patrol and their wing  at the Vicksburg Convention Center gathering. 

Army Brig Gen. General Kimberly A. Peeples, commander of the Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg Division, delivered a presentation on Army Corps programs that develop and manage navigable waterways to promote MSarmycorpsvickssafe commerce and prevent flood damage as much as possible.  

Peeples assumed command July 12, 2023, of the Vicksburg Division, which is responsible for water resources and engineering solutions in a 370,000-square-mile area encompassing portions of 12 states from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. 

Ogan is a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the world’s largest technical society and one of the sponsoring organizations for the event. Other sponsors were the Society of American Military Engineers’ Vicksburg Post, the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Vicksburg Branch, and the Society of Women Engineers’ Mississippi River City section.
