While the COVID-19 pandemic has curtailed large gatherings and activities, training does continue within the limits of Civil Air Patrol’s local remobilization plans.
That was the case in the Missouri Wing when members of the Gateway Senior Squadron used a recent clear day to advance their sUAS (small unmanned aerial system) pilot training. Under the guidance of Senior Member Benjamin Creen, sUAS instructor pilot, members took turns flying a small quadcopter around an idle soccer field.
“I am excited to be putting my remote pilot certificate to use and getting involved with sUAS operations within CAP,” said Senior Member Dan Hartman, a licensed pilot and former Missouri Wing cadet who first soloed during a Minnesota Wing Flight Academy many years ago.
“I'm looking forward to giving back to the organization that gave so much to me as a young adult,” Hartman said.
