New York Wing Trio Focus on Incident Management

NYestrain

NYWG patch (final design, 7-21)Three members of the New York Wing’s emergency services team recently honed their incident management skills at the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center’s Basic Inland Search and Rescue Course in Pasco County, Florida.

The wing’s emergency services training officer, Maj. Michael Mazanec, and two assistant emergency directors of emergency services, Maj. Drew Teichman and Capt. Paul Morer, participated in the three-day course.

Participants expanded their knowledge of modern search theory, lost person behavior characteristics, air and ground search techniques, subject containment and detection methods, and available federal, afrccstate and local resources.

The course culminated in a simulated mission person search, with participants planning and executing both an air- and ground-based search for a general aviation aircraft and its passengers.

“The information Maj. Mazanec, Capt. Morer, and I learned will be utilized when we respond to future emergencies, searches and disaster response, and while training fellow CAP members in emergency services specialties,” Teichman said.

Other participants included Pasco County sheriff’s deputies assigned to missing persons units, local search and rescue team members, military personnel, and  county Emergency Operation Center staff.
