Next Ohio Wing Commander Named

Col.(-select) David A. Dlugiewicz

OHwingCol.(-select) David A. Dlugiewicz has been named the next commander of the Ohio Wing, with a change-of-command ceremony set for April 20 at the 2024 Wing Conference in Newark.

Dlugiewicz, wing vice commander since May 2021, will succeed Col. Peter Bowden in the wing’s top spot.

Dlugiewicz joined Civil Air Patrol in January 2009 in Minnesota as a member of the Mankato Composite Squadron. He filled numerous positions at the squadron and wing levels before transferring to the Ohio Wing in October 2013.

He served at the squadron and group levels as well as commanding two Ohio Wing encampments and serving on encampment staff for two other wings. He also chaired the newly created Functional Users Group, the voice of the membership to National Headquarters, and as deputy director for two Region Staff Colleges and as a staff member for four others.

In 2020, Dlugiewicz was selected as CAP national information technology manager, giving him direct involvement with IT decisions involving members.  He serves on the IT Steering Committee as one of two volunteer members and on the IT executive committee with CAP’s CEO, chief operating officer, chief information officer, and U.S. Air Force representatives.

Dlugiewicz is a founding member of CAP’s Innovation Team, which he helped lead in guiding the organization to a transformational shift in thinking.  He managed the 2022 JanEX Spirit of Innovation competition, creating a scoring program that tracked and guaranteed its results.

A nearly 21-year veteran of the Air Force, Dlugiewicz served as a cryptologic linguist for multiple assignments across Europe. His military career culminated in Panama, where he served a dual role as director of operations for the 33rd Intelligence Squadron, overseeing and participating in Senior Scout, Flowing Pen, and Pacer Coin missions and as superintendent of the Consolidated Mission Operations Center, coordinating joint Army-Air Force missions.
