The New York Wing conducted a large-scale disaster relief training exercise testing its surge capabilities by having all operational aircraft converging on and relaunching from Rome.

Aircraft and crews from all nine of the wing’s groups carried out a photo assignment en route to the Rome base.

The exercise simulated a statewide disaster, said Lt. Col. Paul Ghiron, wing director of emergency services and incident commander for the actively.

"This scenario not only helps us exercise and train but allows us to see where we are now and what we need to do to improve our readiness for the community," said Maj. Grant Sussey, the wing’s director of operations and operations section chief for the exercise.
