Like many members, Maj. Richard Levitt, New York Wing director of plans and programs, began his Civil Air Patrol career as a cadet and has since his adult life as a senior member.

During his 47-year CAP career, Levitt has served as a squadron commander, wing chief of staff and region special projects officer, and filled other wing staff appointments and National Staff College positions.

His long tradition of service is about to enter a new phase.

Outside CAP, Levitt served as a U.S. Air Force medic and a paramedic. That experience led the State Department of Public Health to invite him to administer COVID-19 vaccinations at standup clinics in March.

He has since joined the Medical Reserve Corps to prepare for this effort.

“Growing up as a Civil Air Patrol Cadet and later enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, the core value of 'Service Before Self' has always resonated with me," Levitt said.

"When I received the request to administer COVID-19 vaccines, it was an easy decision to continue that tradition for my local community and state.”
