Puerto Rico Wing members helped distribute 2,000 meal boxes June 11 in support of Misioneros de Amor, a charity organization of the local Catholic church and the community organization Alianza Cultural y Deportiva de Macaná in Guayanilla in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The organizations requested assistance with food delivery to communities in need after identifying bedridden and disabled people without transportation. Community leaders and event organizers were pleased to see Puerto Rico Wing members providing greatly needed assistance with this operation.

“We impacted many families,” said Judith Fabre Nieves, community leader. “We thought that we were going to impact one sector, but in the end there were four. All the logistics and safety went very well; I feel very satisfied and proud to have CAP participating with us.”

Wing members helped load the 2,000 meal boxes into community organizations’ and Civil Air Patrol vehicles and also directly distributed 320 boxes to residents’ houses. Each 45-pound box contained four servings of such items as milk, cheese, vegetables, fruits and proteins.

Social distancing measures were taken to safeguard the wing members, and Centers for Disease Control guidance was also followed.

As a Total Force partner and the U.S. Air Force auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol is aligned with First Air Force to rapidly respond to non-military threats domestically. In this situation members Members worked as a component of the Air Force in a Defense Support of Civil Authorities capacity.
