Sydow Assumes Va. Wing Command

Col. Elizabeth Sydow is the new commander of the Virginia Wing, succeeding Col. Dean E. Gould.

Sydow is wing’s first female commander. She previously served as Civil Air Patrol’s national diversity officer.

As 42-member of CAP, she has served in numerous leadership levels at the wing and squadron levels, including wing vice commander and chief of staff and commander of squadrons in four wings. She was recognized with an Exceptional Service Award in recognition of Virginia Wing accomplishments and with a Distinguished Service Award for her service as national diversity officer.

“As a wing, we will continue our missions of aerospace education, cadet programs and emergency services while supporting the training and needs of our members,” Sydow the change of command ceremony audience at the wing conference. “I’m excited about where the wing is heading, and I look forward to serving with you for the next three years.”

The Virginia Senate issued a resolution recognizing Gould for his service and leadership in four years as wing commander. He was also presented with a Distinguished Service Award.
