Cadet Senior Master Sgt. Jeremy Yoo of the California Wing’s Los Angeles Cadet Squadron 138 has chosen the U.S. Air Force Academy after receiving appointments to not only the Colorado Springs institution but also the Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy, and the Coast Guard Academy.

“I chose the Air Force Academy,” Yoo said, “because it best aligned with the training, values, and mindset I developed through Civil Air Patrol.

“The academy’s strong academic program, especially in science and medicine, and its emphasis on innovation and global service made it the ideal place for me. The sense of purpose and pride I felt watching the jet flyover at summer encampment came full circle when I realized this was where I truly belonged.”

Yoo plans to major in biology or chemistry and is considering two career paths: becoming a military physician or a pilot.

“Both careers are meaningful and align with my desire to serve,” he said. “I plan to experience the academic and military training at the Air Force Academy first, and based on that experience, I will decide which path I’m best suited for.

“I want to challenge myself, explore my full potential, and make a well-informed decision on how I can serve most effectively.”

“CAP taught me the importance of integrity, service, and leadership through hands-on experience,” said Yoo, who joined the organization in April 2023. “From drill and ceremonies to leadership challenges during summer encampment, I learned how to stay composed under pressure and lead by example.

“One of the toughest challenges at summer encampment was enduring the extreme California heat, with temperatures soaring above 110 degrees Fahrenheit. It truly tested my physical and mental limits, pushing me to develop resilience, discipline, and perseverance under harsh conditions.”

At North Hollywood High School Highly Gifted Magnet, he said, “I was passionate about science, leadership, and service. I served as captain of the varsity golf team, was vice president of a community service club supporting children with disabilities and founded a student-led mentorship group. In Civil Air Patrol,

“I enjoyed serving as [a cadet noncommissioned officer], participating in community service missions, and taking part in summer encampment, where I learned discipline, teamwork, and military structure through experiences like marching and drill.”_____Lt.
