Civil Air Patrol has named Christopher Plamp as its next Chief Operating Officer (COO), bringing the organization a seasoned leader with deep experience in military service, nonprofit operations, and mission-driven leadership.
“The CAP Board of Governors (BoG) initiated a nationwide COO application process. We had several candidates apply from inside and outside of the CAP enterprise. Moreover, we had several exceptional candidates with the leadership experience and proven C-Suite track record to propel CAP to greater heights and improve our volunteer end user’s experience. The BoG selected Mr. Christopher Plamp, the current USO COO. Christopher is a highly experienced Air Force officer, pilot, and a renowned non-profit leader.”

Mr. Christopher Plamp
Plamp joins Civil Air Patrol from the United Service Organizations (USO), where he served in senior leadership roles supporting service members and their families worldwide. A combat aviator and U.S. Air Force veteran, he brings a strong operational background and a career defined by service to others.
“I am honored to join Civil Air Patrol and excited to become part of such an exceptional service organization. I look forward to listening, learning, and working together as we continue to strengthen the programs and missions serving our communities and our nation.”
His appointment comes at a time of continued momentum for Civil Air Patrol, the civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force and a congressionally chartered nonprofit organization. With more than 70,000 members nationwide, CAP supports emergency services, develops youth through its cadet program, and advances aerospace education in communities across the country.
As COO, Plamp will work closely with Civil Air Patrol’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and National Commander to lead day-to-day operations across Civil Air Patrol, helping to ensure alignment, efficiency, and sustained execution across its three core programs.
“I am excited to welcome Mr. Plamp as our incoming COO. His distinguished service in the USAF and his executive leadership at the USO reflect a career defined by professionalism, strategic insight, and a commitment to service. Mr. Plamp brings a disciplined approach to organizational management and a clear understanding of how to support a diverse, volunteer-driven mission. I look forward to the enhanced systems, operational excellence, and member-focused improvements his leadership will help advance.”
Civil Air Patrol leadership emphasized that Plamp’s experience operating in complex, service-oriented environments makes him well positioned to support the organization’s current and future growth, effectiveness, and operational excellence.
Plamp’s transition also reflects the close alignment between organizations dedicated to service, including Civil Air Patrol and the USO. Both organizations share a longstanding commitment to supporting the military community and strengthening the resilience of the nation through volunteer service.
Civil Air Patrol remains focused on supporting its members, advancing its programs and missions, and expanding its impact nationwide. With Plamp’s leadership, the organization continues to build on a strong foundation while positioning itself for continued growth and relevance in an evolving environment.
