Teams from the Indiana Wing’s Anderson and Valparaiso composite squadrons finished first and third in the Great Lakes Region Cadet Competition, with the Kentucky Wing’s Louisville Cadet Squadron entry placing second.

The Illinois Wing’s Lewis and Springfield composite squadrons and the Michigan Wing’s Livingston and Maj. Kevin A. Adams Memorial composite squadrons also participated in the competition at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Indiana.

Last year’s Vaparaiso team won the 2024 competition, followed by their Anderson counterparts in second place.

The Anderson cadets finished first in Impromptu Speech, Extemporaneous Speech, and Standard Drill; second in Spot Inspection and Indoor Drill; and third in Panel Quiz.

The team consisted of:

  • Cadet Col. Cameron Milleman   

  • Cadet Lt. Col. Elliot Dearing     

  • Cadet Maj. Garrett Tice               

  • Cadet Capt. Mariquita Thompson 

  • Cadet Capt. Carson Tice   

  • Cadet Master Sgt. Jonathan Burton       

Milleman, Dearing, and the Tices returned from the 2024 team. 

The Louisville team’s cadets placed first in Spot Inspection, Team Leadership Problem, Fitness Test, and Panel Quiz and second in Extemporaneous Speech and Written Test.

The Louisville team members were:

  • Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Aiden Baughman

The Valparaiso team finished first in Indoor Drill and Written Test, second in Standard Drill, and third in Spot Inspection, Service Project, and Extemporaneous Speech.

The Valparaiso competitors were:

  • Cadet Lt. Col. Noah Johnson               

  • Cadet Maj. Matthew Fiore      

  • Cadet 1st Lt. Draven Targgart    

  • Cadet Senior Master Sgt. Shiloh Waffler 

  • Cadet Tech. Sgt. Benjamin Brooks         

  • Cadet Tech. Sgt. Jackson Paduch 

   Johnson, Fiore, and Targgart also participated in 2024.

The Lewis team came in second in Service Project and Impromptu Speech and third in Team Leadership Problem, Standard Drill, and Fitness Test. In addition, Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Roselie Carr captured the Fleet Foot Award — Female, by running a 7:26:69 mile.

The Springfield cadets won Service Project and finished second in Indoor Drill and third in Panel Quiz.

The Adams team placed second in Team Leadership Problem and Fitness Test and third in Written Test. The Fleet Foot Award — Male went to Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Gavin Heichel for his 5:50:60 mile.

The Livingston entry finished third in Impromptu Speech.
