Members of the New Jersey Wing’s Twin Pine Composite Squadron teamed with Civil Air Patrol pilots Oct. 5 to assist with the Girl Scouts Festival of Flight at Fort Mott State Park.
Col. Amy Myzie, New Jersey Wing commander, and Maj. Janis Blackburn, the wing’s internal aerospace education officer, shared their life experiences and aviation successes with the participating Girl Scouts. Maj. Wasim Baig, Twin Pine operations officer and wing director of operations, and Capt. Shelley Ewalt, the squadron’s aerospace education officer, did the same.
The Girls Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey designed the Festival of Flight to give Girl Scouts hands-on experiences through various stations with the goal of exploring young girls to explore aviation in its many forms.
The stations included activities like “Buzzing in Flight,” kite-making, passport-style photos with a pilot, Blackburn’s special reading of her book “Teddy the Airplane,” and a coloring station featuring an original design and an aviation-themed coloring book by Cadet Staff Sgt. Logan Lancellotti, an aspiring pilot.
“I am very glad that CAP can support Girl Scouts and promote aviation for women,” Myzie said. Ewalt described sharing her experiences with participants as “thoroughly enjoyable.”
“I am very honored to be a volunteer for this event,” Cadet Master Sgt. Madison Couvertier said. “I think it’s very important for young girls to be exposed to an environment like this.”_____Cadet Staff Sgt. Sri Sowmya TanguturiTwin Pine Composite SquadronNew Jersey Wing
