About 60 members from around the New York Wing gathered April 25-27 at Chenango Valley State Park in Chenango Forks for a search and rescue training exercise focused on a simulated missing camper from the park’s cabin colony.
“This training helps our members prepare to search for a missing person,” said Lt. Col. Douglas Jensen, Central New York Group emergency services training officer and activity director for the exercise, which featured training in ground team operations, communications, and incident management.
New York State Forest Rangers Joan Oldroyd and Anne Staples led the exercise.
The rangers “are experts in the field of search and rescue,” Jensen said, “and we appreciate being able to learn from them.”
Participants were able to use the wing’s new Emergency Communication Mobile Unit, which features radio and internet communications equipment helping teams in the field stay connected to their incident command post._____Lt. Col. Franklin BirtAssistant Public Affairs OfficerNew York Wing
