

Lt. Col. Eric V. Scott is the next commander of the Michigan Wing, having been appointed to the position by Col. Rose M. Hunt, Great Lakes Region commander.
Scott will succeed Col. Christopher A. Ballard, wing commander since September 2021, in a change of command ceremony Sept. 21 at Michigan National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Lansing.
“I am deeply humbled and appreciative to Col. Hunt for her confidence in me to lead and serve the nearly 1,300 auxiliary airmen of the Michigan Wing,” Scott said. “I also look forward to working with the other region wing commanders and our CAP-USAF partners.”
Scott’s Civil Air Patrol career has spanned nearly 37 years. He joined CAP in 1987 as a Michigan Wing cadet and has since served in many staff and leadership positions, most notably as a squadron commander, director of cadet programs, deputy group commander, wing vice commander, and, most recently, region chief of staff.
His accolades include the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Exceptional Service Award, Meritorious Service Award, Commander’s Commendation Award (one device), and the Civil Air Patrol Achievement Award (two devices. He was also selected as the Michigan Wing’s 2021 Senior Member of the Year.
Scott has completed Level V of Civil Air Patrol’s Education and Training Program and earned Master ratings in Cadet Programs and Education and Training, Senior in Command, and Technician in Inspector General.
Outside CAP, Scott has 35 years of service in the U.S. Air Force and Michigan Air National Guard. He is a chief master sergeant and is the senior enlisted leader of the 110th Operations Group at Battle Creek Air National Guard Base.
