The Texas Wing’s Fort Worth Phoenix and South Fort Worth Diamondback composite squadron added a Civil Air Patrol touch to this year’s Mansfield Pickle Parade, marking a memorable first appearance at one of North Texas’s most beloved and quirky annual events.

Held in downtown Mansfield, the Pickle Parade is known for its lively atmosphere, green-themed celebrations, and distinctive tribute to the city’s claim as the Pickle Capital of Texas. This year the Fort Worth Phoenix and Diamondback squadron members stood out amid the marching bands, floats, and costumed revelers.

Decked out in full uniform, cadets and adult members marched down Main Street behind the U.S. and Texas flags to applause from hundreds of thousands of onlookers lining the parade route

“The cadets were excited to participate in such a fun and high-energy event,” said Capt. Roman Vitanza, Fort Worth Phoenix squadron commander. “This was a fantastic opportunity for community engagement and to showcase the dedication and professionalism of our young leaders.”

For many cadets, the parade provided their first chance to participate in a significant public event, offering the opportunity to build confidence, teamwork, and visibility.

The two squadrons also used the occasion to connect with the community, handing out brochures and discussing Civil Air Patrol opportunities for youth and adults alike with observers. Their appearance sparked interest among families, with several expressing interest in joining or learning more about CAP.

The squadrons plan to return next year with an even more significant presence, aiming to make participation in the Pickle Parade a new tradition.

“This is just the beginning,” said 1st Lt. Michael McDade, Diamondback squadron commander. “We’re proud to be part of this great community, and we look forward to serving and celebrating with Mansfield for years to come.”

In addition to marching in the parade, the Phoenix squadron presented the colors at the start of the Pickle Parade 5K run. Cadets executed the ceremony with precision and pride, earning cheers from runners and spectators alike.

Meanwhile, dedicated squadron family members came together behind the scenes to craft a whimsical pickle-themed float that captured the day’s spirit. Decorated with oversized pickles, green streamers, and CAP emblems, the float was a labor of love and creativity, showcasing the squadron’s strong sense of community and support._____2nd Lt.
