The Texas Wing has mobilized its resources to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Beryl.
CAP’s involvement includes imagery flights and assessment missions using aircraft equipped with specialized camera systems aimed at providing crucial situational awareness and support for first responders and relief organizations across affected areas. As of July 12, CAP aircrews had completed 22 flights to acquire imagery for FEMA’s damage assessments.
“I am incredibly proud of our dedicated teams who have worked tirelessly on this mission,” said Capt. Matthew Kosmoski, CAP’s incident commander for the hurricane response. “Their unwavering commitment and professionalism are instrumental in supporting ongoing efforts to restore our communities after damage caused by Hurricane Beryl.”
Acting as a Total Force partner and official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, Civil Air Patrol helps First Air Force rapidly respond to nonmilitary threats domestically in a Defense Support of Civil Authorities capacity to save lives, relieve suffering, prevent property damage, and provide humanitarian assistance.
The camera sensors used by CAP gather real-time and cost-effective information through high-resolution photography as well as 3D and orthomosaic imagery, which helps emergency management officials direct their relief efforts._____Capt.
