The Texas Wing’s McKinney-based Thunderbolt Composite Squadron partnered with the U.S. Mobile Healthcare ambulance service for a recent search and rescue exercise involving a missing person scenario.

Before the search began, ambulance staff instructed cadets on emergency medical service response, scene readiness, and securing a patient for transport. A discussion followed on how Civil Air Patrol and U.S. Mobile Healthcare can collaborate in providing aid during emergency service missions.

The cadets then coordinated with paramedics in carrying out the missing person search. The young squadron members divided themselves into ground team and mission base participants.

The ground team provided operational updates to mission base, where cadets constantly monitored the searchers’ location while communicating vital information to the paramedics — an approach that simulated the interagency communication essential in actual missions.

Upon locating their target, the ground team members assessed the situation and decided to request medical assistance. The mission base cadets immediately coordinated with the ambulance service to provide directions to the site.

After arriving at the scene, paramedics worked with the cadets to prepare the injured individual for transport. _____Logan VasquezThunderbolt Composite SquadronTexas Wing
