“In this capacity, I will support the entire membership of Utah Wing to achieve the missions of CAP, maintains liaison with local and state government officials, and represents CAP to the community,” said Wesemann, who succeeds Col. John Wagner.
Wesemann joined Civil Air Patrol at age 14 in October 1981 as a member of the Utah Wing’s Enterprise Composite Squadron, now the Thunderbird Cadet Squadron.
He earned CAP’s top cadet honor, the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award, in April 1985.
A 1991 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Wesemann participated in pilot training at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma, and earned his wings in 1993.

After pilot training, he maintained continuous membership in CAP, serving in numerous leadership positions, including deputy commander for cadets, leadership officer, and aerospace education officer, while serving in the Colorado, New Jersey, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Georgia wings as well as a Republic of Korea overseas squadron.
He most recently served as commander and communications officer for the Utah Wing’s Legislative Squadron.
Wesemann is the director of the pilot program at Utah State University in Salt Lake City, as well as the school’s new small Unmanned Aerial Systems degree and master’s program for aviation.
Under the leadership of Wagner, Wesemann’s predecessor, the wing developed a new cadet flight training initiative and expanded the partnership with the Utah Department of Aeronautics and state and local law enforcement agencies._____1st Lt. Casey SmithPublic Affairs OfficerUtah Wing
