Members of the Delaware Wing’s Coastal Patrol Base 2 Memorial Composite Squadron joined with veterans and local residents and organizations at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand to mark Veterans Day.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7447 hosted the observation, during which memorial wreaths were placed by several local organizations, including the Civil Air Patrol squadron.
A historical plaque at the Rehoboth Beach Memorial honors four CAP members who died during missions conducted from locally based Coastal Patrol Base 2, which monitored the Atlantic Coast from February 1942-September 1943 for German submarines threating U.S. shipping — Lts. Delmont Garrett, Charles Shelfus, Harold Swift, and Paul Towne.
Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Lorraine Westphal and Cadet Airman Noah Brown participated in the wreath-laying. Westphal did so for the third straight, continuing a tradition begun about five weeks after she joined CAP in October 2022._____1st Lt.
