Inclement weather failed to dampen spirits among the organizers, visitors, and supporters – Delaware Wing members included – of the First State Air Show held May 18-19 at Dover Air Force Base

The event’s wide array of aerospace exhibits included a comprehensive Civil Air Patrol aerospace education display and cadet-staffed booths.

Four cadets from the Delaware Air National Guard Cadet Squadron presented the colors during the national anthem as rain continued to fall. The cadets, standing firm in the face of challenging conditions, were unaware that a C-5A aircraft was poised on the nearby runway with engines idling.

As they presented the colors, the massive aircraft’s engines roared to life, taking off with a thunderous roar that provided a dramatic backdrop to the ceremony  dedication.

The color guard consisted of:

  • Cadet 1st Lts. Haley Cranford and Mason Cranford

  • Cadet 2nd Lts. Liam Aber and Amiyah Moretz
