The Cessna 150 is a two-seat tricycle-gear general aviation aircraft designed for flight training, touring, and personal use. American-made 150s were produced with the Continental O-200-A 100-horsepower engine. The 150D model for 1964 brought the first major change to the 150’s look — introduction of a wraparound rear window under the marketing name Omni-Vision, following the pattern already set by other Cessna models. The new rear window improved rearward visibility, and many found the new cabin more “airy” and pleasant thanks to the increased light.
Civil Air Patrol flew N4423U out of the Kentucky Wing. This particular aircraft was honored as the subject of a Minicraft model kit. Although incorrectly portrayed as the 1966 F model with swept tail and wheel speed fairings, it remains one of very few CAP aircraft hobby models.
Maj. Ron Finger is a freelance illustrator and member of the Minnesota Wing’s Crow Wing Composite Squadron. Recently honored by the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame as Artist of the Year, he is an Air Force Art Program artist, where a select pool of artists are assigned “art missions” to document specific U.S. Air Force operations.
Among his duties as Civil Air Patrol’s national artist, Finger researches and creates art that portrays our historical emergency service. A personal goal is to complete paintings documenting every aircraft type CAP has flown.
This is the 19th painting in Finger’s second series of depictions of vintage CAP aircraft. More of Finger’s CAP artwork can be seen at redpine.net.
