The T-41 trainer was the military version of the Cessna 172 general aviation aircraft. Beginning in 1964, the U.S. Air Force used it as a beginning training aircraft before proceeding to the T-37 jet trainer.
Different versions of the T-41 with various engines, propellers, and specialized equipment include the Air Force T-41A, the U.S. Army T-41B, the Air Force Academy T-41C, and the T-41D for the U.S. military aid program.
Civil Air Patrol’s Congressional Squadron flew N5175F out of Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland — now Joint Base Andrews.
Maj. Ron Finger is a freelance illustrator and member of the Minnesota Wing’s Crow Wing Composite Squadron. He’s an Air Force Art Program artist, one of a select pool of artists assigned “art missions” to document specific U.S. Air Force operations.
Among his duties as Civil Air Patrol’s national artist, Finger researches and creates art that portrays our historical emergency service. A personal goal is to complete paintings documenting every aircraft type CAP has flown.
This is the 23rd painting in Finger’s second series of depictions of vintage CAP aircraft. More of Finger’s CAP artwork can be seen at redpine.net.
